Sa Fira i Es Firó: the battle Sóller relives every May

If you could only come to Sóller for one weekend a year, this would probably be it. Every May the whole village takes to the streets to re-enact the battle it fought against Barbary pirates in the sixteenth century.

Es Firó, Moors and Christians

Locals dressed as Moors and Christians take the port and the village streets in a re-enactment that starts early and runs all day, with gunpowder, drums and an intensity that takes first-timers by surprise.

Sa Fira, the fair itself

In the days before, Sa Fira fills the square and the streets with stalls of local produce, crafts and activities. It is the moment to try the valley’s oranges, the oil from the Serra and the baking from the village pastry shops.

It is one of the busiest weeks of the year in the valley: if it appeals to you, book well in advance.
