Port de Sóller and the tram that runs down to the sea

The valley ends in an almost enclosed bay, with a sandy beach, a seafront promenade and a small fleet of boats. From the centre of Sóller you get there on a wooden tram that covers the five kilometres between the village and the sea.

The tram is part of the plan

It leaves from the square, passes between the houses and then skirts the orchards before coming out at the port. It is slow on purpose, and that is the charm: in twenty minutes you go from a mountain village to the Mediterranean.

What to do once you are down there

Swim at Platja d’en Repic, walk up to the Cap Gros lighthouse to see the whole bay from above, or stay on a terrace on the promenade watching the boats come in. At sunset the light hits the mountain that closes the bay full on.

The last tram back usually leaves in the early evening; if you are staying for dinner, it is worth checking the timetable first.
