Barranc de Biniaraix: the most classic walk in the Tramuntana

Barranc de Biniaraix, a walking route from Sóller

Twenty minutes on foot from the hotel, one of the most beautiful paths in Mallorca begins. The Barranc de Biniaraix climbs alongside a stream hemmed in by rock walls, following a cobbled path that has been there for centuries.

What you will find

The path leaves the small hamlet of Biniaraix and zigzags up through olive terraces held in place by dry-stone walls. It is a feat of vernacular engineering and part of the cultural landscape of the Serra de Tramuntana, a World Heritage Site.

Depending on how far you want to go, the walk can take a couple of hours or a whole day: the path links up with L’Ofre, the Cúber reservoir and the long-distance routes of the Serra.

When to go and what to take

The best months run from October to May. In summer it is worth setting off very early, because the climb faces the sun for much of the morning and there are no springs until well up.

Shoes with good grip, plenty of water and sun protection. And when you come back, the hotel pool is exactly what your legs need.
