EXCURSION TO CALA TUENT AND SA CALOBRA: THE ESSENCE OF THE MEDITERRANEAN 100%!
Enjoying a few days' holiday at the Alcázar Hotel Sóller means enjoying the authenticity of the Tramuntana mountain range from the very first moment. Located in the centre of the Valley of Sóller, between the Mediterranean Sea and at the foot of the Puig Major, from here it is much easier to enjoy the most beautiful and magical excursions of the north coast of Mallorca. Excursions such as Cala Tuent and Sa Calobra in the same day. Two natural coves located in an idyllic enclave of crystal clear waters and which can be reached via one of the most iconic and spectacular roads on the island of Mallorca: The Puig Major road! So today we suggest you visit Cala Tuent and Sa Calobra, two coves located in our neighbouring municipality of Escorca, where you can also find the Lluch Monastery.
FROM THE ALCÁZAR HOTEL TO CALA TUENT
It is important to point out that the visit to Cala Tuent and Sa Calobra can be made in various ways, either by boat or charter; with the company Barcos Azules, which makes daily trips from the Port of Sóller, and even by bicycle or through the hiking trails. Today, however, we will be visiting by car!
So after our breakfast at the Alcázar Hotel we will set off in the direction of the Puig Major road. A road that crosses the Sierra de Tramuntana between pine forests, centenary olive trees, alzinas, etc. and that runs for about 40 km leaving us the possibility of enjoying its viewpoints and emblematic places such as the Mirador de Ses Barques, the Gorg Blau, the Cúber reservoir or one of its most spectacular points: The famous tie knot, a 360 degree curve where we can stop to enjoy its fantastic views and engineering.
We then come to a turning that shows us the way to Cala Tuent. We will reach this cove after another 15 minutes. Once there, we will see that it is not the typical tourist cove: here we will not find beach bars, hammocks or shops, but rather a quiet and natural atmosphere. Once there, you can enjoy the waters and, if you feel like it, you can even eat in the only restaurant in the area: Es Vergeret. A Mediterranean cuisine restaurant with spectacular views. Although we recommend you book in advance if you want to eat there, which is a good option as it also has parking for customers.
So, after our visit to Cala Tuent, we will continue in the direction of Sa Calobra, going back a stretch of the road to take the detour towards there.
SA CALOBRA AND THE TORRENT OF PAREIS
After another stretch by car we arrive at Sa Calobra. A much smaller cove than Cala Tuent, where we will find more shops and even an old hotel which today only has a restaurant, not rooms, as well as several souvenir shops and another restaurant. Once here, we suggest you take a walk and visit one of the most special spots on the north coast: the Torrent de Pareis. To do so, we will follow the indications on foot, crossing a tunnel excavated in the rock that will lead us to the mouth of the torrent itself.
Thus, after crossing the tunnel we will suddenly find another beach between giant cliffs that delimit it. Without a doubt, this is a place that we recommend you to visit 100%. It is also important to note that in the summer months it is usually quite crowded, so if your plan is to enjoy this beach, we recommend arriving early in the morning and making the visit starting first at Sa Calobra and then in the afternoon going to Cala Tuent. Similarly, if your plan is to eat in Sa Calobra, a very good option is to do so at the Hotel de Sa Calobra as they have an à la carte option and also a buffet option. After lunch we can choose to enjoy the Mediterranean Sea, nature or do some water activities such as snorkelling, paddle surfing or even scuba diving! Although if you are a lover of this sport we recommend you contact Tuent Aventure and go on one of their diving trips from Cala Tuent. Undoubtedly a unique experience that will allow you to explore the seabed and take diving courses in this special enclave in the Mediterranean and in some of the richest waters of the islands.
BACK TO THE ALCÁZAR HOTEL
After our day in Escorca we will make the return trip along the same road to Puig Major, a journey of approximately one hour.
Although it is true that the route is long and winding, it is a 100% recommended excursion, not only because it allows us to enjoy enclaves of crystalline water and nature, but also because it allows us to get to know and cross the Tramuntana mountain range and discover its richness, landscapes and the balance between nature and human engineering.
Also, if we are not leaving Sa Calobra or Cala Tuent too late and we are already arriving at the Valley of Sóller, we recommend a last stop at Es Mirador de Ses Barques. A family restaurant serving Mallorcan cuisine with some of the best views of the bay of Puerto de Sóller, the Tramuntana mountain range and the Mediterranean Sea, from where you can enjoy a sunset that cannot be explained in words. Also, if you plan to dine there during the summer months, we recommend you book in advance to enjoy one of the front row tables on its floating terrace overlooking the sunset. So, after our stop at Es Mirador de Ses Barques we will finally return to the Alcázar hotel. At this point we can park our car in our exclusive parking for guests before relaxing in our room and enjoying the hotel's services to put an end to a full day in one of the most characteristic and special places in Mallorca.
Being able to enjoy the north coast of Mallorca is a unique privilege all year round. A 100% Mediterranean experience that reflects the essence of our culture, nature and way of being and thanks to our location it is much easier to immerse yourself in this environment during your stay on the island. An experience that you are sure to carry with you forever.
If you are staying at our hotel and would like more information about Sa Calobra or Cala Tuent, as well as how to visit by boat, bicycle or hiking route, either on your own or with a local guide, do not hesitate to ask our reception team, who will be happy to help you.
